Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa holds three major fundraising events annually:
Bowl For Kids' Sake - Winter
If you like to have fun and help children in your community, then Bowl For Kids’ Sake is right up your alley!
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ largest fundraiser of the year, and all money raised goes toward providing mentors to children in our community who are in need of a supportive role model. Individuals gather teams of 4 to 6 people to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring programs, and then celebrate their fundraising with a free bowling party. Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a wonderful team-building opportunity for businesses. There are many opportunities to win prizes, from a weekend out on the town to airline tickets. Bowl For Kids’ Sake takes place in February-March each year, with various times available for individuals’ and corporations’ convenience. Hy-Vee Fishing Derby - Spring
One fish, two fish, red fish – you fish!
The Hy-Vee Fishing Derby is a fun, free event that is held annually at Water Works Park in Des Moines. The Derby gives children up to 15 years of age the chance to fish and win great prizes. You’ll see a lot of fish, but you’ll see even more smiles. And if you aren’t interested in fishing, that’s okay - we need nearly 200 volunteers to help the day of the Derby – with parking, picking up trash, handing out t-shirts and helping kids with bait. Big Shots Fore Big Brothers Big Sisters - Summer
Get into the swing of supporting mentoring by participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Big Shots Fore Kids golf tournament.
Sponsored by Liberty Bank, the golf tournament takes place at one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in Iowa – Legacy Golf Course. Individuals and foursomes compete in a best-shot tournament and enjoy a delicious lunch provided by an area restaurant. Golfers have the choice of participating in a morning or afternoon tournament. All money raised goes toward providing a mentor to children in our community who are in need of a supportive role model. So set aside your work for a Friday, and pick up your clubs.
